Study Skills Classes

    This course is designed for college bound high school students looking to improve their academic performance. Over the course of four sessions, students learn new study skills to assist them in managing and achieving academic success in AP, IB, Honors and College Prep courses.

    Some of the topics covered include:

    • Personal and Academic Goal Setting
    • Time Management and Organization
    • Course Management Techniques
    • Note Taking
    • Studying Techniques and Test Preparation
    • Stress Management
    • Personal Accountability

    Throughout the series, we utilize the student’s actual assignments and text books to teach skills and monitor progress. Additionally, each student will take two self-assessment surveys, one on organization skills and one to determine the student’s learning style. Based upon the results of each student’s survey, recommendations will be made on strategies or tips to assist the student in achieving academic success.

Word Power

    The College Blueprint™ is proud to announce its first Foundation Series course, Word Power!

    The College Blueprint's new Word Power! class is specifically designed to build a strong foundation before our students begin SAT and ACT preparation.

    Students will learn effective strategies for decoding unfamiliar words as well as how to develop stronger word choices for their own writing. Our small class size will enable our students to expand their vocabularies and improve their critical reading skills. Classes are “seminar style” with lots of interaction and student-directed learning. Course instructor, Adella Loar, is a retired California teacher with a Master’s Degree and a successful College Blueprint tutor.

College Application Essay Workshop

    Essay workshops are times set aside for rising Seniors to come into the office to learn and be engaged in the process and how-to of essay writing. These skills are highly applicable in planning and executing college application essays due in the Fall!

 

College Campus Tours & College Visits

    While websites can provide a lot of valuable information about various colleges and universities, there is no substitute for seeing the real thing. Preparing for the visit is important and requires advanced planning. Careful planning can save time and money.

    This seminar provides an in depth look at college visits and how you can make them work for you and your student. Some of the topics covered include:

  1. the value of college visits
  2. Steps to scheduling your tours and appointments
  3. How to get the most out of your visit
  4. Tips on how to get the “real story” about the college.
  5. Interviews and appointments- Who, what, when and where
  6. The “extras” of the college visit

 

College Transitions

    Moving on to college is an exciting time and yet, can be a challenging experience. This course addresses the realities and challenges most incoming college freshman will face in their academic and social lives. Tips and strategies for making a smooth transition will be discussed and a panel of current college freshman will discuss their first year expereinces. Students and parents expectations when returning home, and sibling adjustments will also be covered.

-Generate a list of 10 potential careers and related majors & research growth trends, salaries and job prospects for each career.

- Research & develop a list of 10-15 colleges to which they plan to apply Develop a resume, learn interviewing techniques and participate in a simulated college interview

- Receive individual instruction and write a personal statement or long essay.
